About Total Vein Concepts
Total Vein Concepts offers a comprehensive, innovative vein treatment program; specializing in the care of venous diseases, including spider and varicose veins. We artfully combine the management of cosmetic and debilitating medical venous problems using minimally invasive, cutting edge technologies to make you look and feel your best. After a comprehensive venous evaluation, treatment planning is individualized according to your personal goals.
Total Vein Concepts is a division of Medical Center Radiologists(MCR). Medical Center Radiologists is the largest subspecialty radiology practice in Hampton Roads, with over 40 physician members serving the local medical community with an ongoing commitment to excellence for over 50 years.
At Total Vein Concepts, the initial consultation will consist of a comprehensive venous history and physical exam, including an initial non-invasive diagnostic Doppler ultrasound evaluation to access the severity of the venous problems. Digital photographs of potential treatment sites are also usually obtained.
A referral from your primary care doctor should be obtained if possible. Some insurance companies require this. Keep in mind that most vein treatments are considered cosmetic and will not be covered by insurance. Please check with your individual carrier for their requirements and coverage policies.
For primarily cosmetic concerns, such as spider veins and reticular veins, an initial test treatment with sclerotherapy or laser/light therapy may be performed on the same day as the consultation. The treatment plan is then outlined and scheduled, most often consisting of sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy is typically performed over several sessions spaced 2-6 weeks apart.
For more severe venous disorders, varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency, additional non-invasive diagnostic tests may be necessary. Some treatments may require insurance pre-approval. New, minimally invasive therapies are now available as an alternative to traditional surgical vein stripping, such as endovenous laser ablation (Venacure) and microphlebectomy. If you have “medical necessity” for treatment, we will provide all of the required documentation for your insurance company.
Almost all of our treatments require the patient to wear prescription compression stockings for optimal results. The length of time required will be determined by the physician and detailed in post-procedure instructions. This is often an integral part of the treatment plan.
