Non-Invasive Diagnostic Testing

Vein problems visible to the naked eye may be only the “tip of the iceberg”. Venous disorders have a broad range of manifestations. Some are cosmetic issues, others are serious medical issues. In the office, it will be determined whether venous reflux exists. Part of the comprehensive exam includes the use of a hand held continuous wave Doppler ultrasound probe, which is like a stethoscope for the phlebologist. This allows us to determine presence of flow and sites of reflux. Further evaluation with duplex and color flow imaging allows us to directly visualize the veins, measure functional parameters, evaluate directional flow patterns, and clarify sites of reflux and abnormal function. Occasionally, a more in-depth evaluation of the deep and superficial veins is necessary to create a “road-map” for treatment planning at the Vascular Laboratory. All of these examinations are non-invasive and painless.
